The ZiggyCam will be live for the month long trip. With the exception of when anchored after dark (i.e. saving battery usage rather than broadcast a cam feed of the dark) or during a rare lack of cellphone signal the cam will be live 24/7 along with the chat room even miles offshore. The soft goal this year is to hit Mackinac Island and round Drummand Island at the top of Lake Huron before heading back home to Detroit.
Today the weather broke nicely and we got a semi early start for harrisville.
With a west wind we blasted out of the Tawas Bay at about 10:30am. Then we rounded the point and cleared the Tawas reef and headed east out of Saginaw Bay then swung north up the Michigan coast.
Once out on the open water the winds picked up and everything started to move in double time.
The winds was cranking along. The boat stood up and kicked ass up the lake! we were running mid 8 knots to low 9 knots in speed and burying the rail with the sails reefed.
With this speed we fetched Harrisville in no time. The dingy danced behind the boat to the music from the Bose speakers mounted on the solar panel framework on the back of the boat.
Steve and I dropped the sails around 5pm and we tooled into the harbor. I had planned to anchor out but the winds were so stiff I chose to get a slip for the nite.
Jane and the little one drove up and joined us for dinner. Pizza and anti-pasta salad under the pavilion on the hill overlooking the harbor was a great way to wind down the evening.
