The ZiggyCam will be live for the month long trip. With the exception of when anchored after dark (i.e. saving battery usage rather than broadcast a cam feed of the dark) or during a rare lack of cellphone signal the cam will be live 24/7 along with the chat room even miles offshore. The soft goal this year is to hit Mackinac Island and round Drummand Island at the top of Lake Huron before heading back home to Detroit.
This is about a 30 mile hop from the bottom of the Lake. I was eying a big 70 mile run the Harbor Beach but the light wing fizzled out and I coasted into my old stomping grounds of Pt. Sanilac.
Turns out this is the classic boat show weekend with bands and beer tent! yeahhh!
I spent the day sailing along at an easy 5 knots or more for most of the day. With smooth water and a baking hot sun I just lounged all afternoon. I even took a short 20 minute nap on the foredeck stretched out on the spinnaker bag like a big dog. Autopilot is a wonderful thing.
Once the wind died down I slowed to a slow ass 2.5 - 3 knots. I took advantage of it and did some swim ladder surfing and got a bath in while I was playing.
It's all fun as long as you don't let go of the swim ladder which would make for a long slow death from exposure 8 miles from shore as you watched your boat gently sail away by itself.
