The ZiggyCam will be live for the month long trip. With the exception of when anchored after dark (i.e. saving battery usage rather than broadcast a cam feed of the dark) or during a rare lack of cellphone signal the cam will be live 24/7 along with the chat room even miles offshore. The soft goal this year is to hit Mackinac Island and round Drummand Island at the top of Lake Huron before heading back home to Detroit.
We showered, fueled up and hit the lake. We were sailing almost due north and the south winds felt promising.
We ate breakfast on the sail and were making great time. Then the storms started to pop up. Since we were sailing across the width of the lake it was open water with no place to hide.
I eventually dropped the main sail before the storm fronts kicked up to bad and motored with the jib flying so we could drop the sail quickly if one of the squalls hit us.
We donned our rain gear and braved the weather. The wind whipped waves kicked our ass all the way across the lake. Everyone but Lenny was feeling a bit green before land popped over the horizon in front of us.
We finally docked at about 5pm wet and tired. We explored the 5 blocks of town after dinner at the Main Sail Restaurant. I like this town and want to ride the bike up sometime.
Shortly after settling in Rich and Lenny dozed off and Jane and I headed out looking for fun in this one horse town.
We found it at the Village Inn bar! There we met Brandon and Jolene. Jolene mixed the drinks while Brandon bonded with us with his adventures as a newly converted sail boater.
When the dust settled we wandered home with a pocket full of pepper cheese balls and a belly full of Jack.
