The ZiggyCam will be live for the month long trip. With the exception of when anchored after dark (i.e. saving battery usage rather than broadcast a cam feed of the dark) or during a rare lack of cellphone signal the cam will be live 24/7 along with the chat room even miles offshore. The soft goal this year is to hit Mackinac Island and round Drummond Island at the top of Lake Huron before heading back home to Detroit.
After our 1st night in the North Channel we had a good breakfast at the Fishers Restaurant and sailed out at about noon.
Harbor Island is a horseshoe shaped island about 6 miles north east of De Tour Village.
The hour of weaving through the assorted islands along the journey was a blast. Everyone was on the bow with cameras and binoculars oohing and aahing the whole way while I used the GPS to pick the best route through the reefs, shoals and islands.
We slowly slid into the interior of the Island excited to anchor for 24 hours in paradise. The island is a nature preserve that can only be visited during daylight hours but we can spend the night anchored right in the middle of the island!
I put up the hammock over the bow where Jane and I relaxed with a cocktail while Rich and Lenny jumped in the dingy and explored the island.
Later we fired up the grill and did a classic dinner of potatoes and onions in foil, kielbasa and salad while watching deer play on shore and a great sunset over the island take shape.
The boys hit the sack early whipped from all the hiking and fun while Jane and I pulled out a couple of blankets and settled into the cockpit where we laid out watching the stars covering the sky until we fell to sleep.
