The ZiggyCam will be live for the month long trip. With the exception of when anchored after dark (i.e. saving battery usage rather than broadcast a cam feed of the dark) or during a rare lack of cellphone signal the cam will be live 24/7 along with the chat room even miles offshore. The soft goal this year is to hit Mackinac Island and round Drummond Island at the top of Lake Huron before heading back home to Detroit.
We woke to a beautiful day and after soaking up the island for one last time we pulled the anchor and pointed the bow to the open waters of the North Channel.
Picking my way through the islands was easier on the way out and we were fueling up in De Tour Village in an hour. We took advantage of the showers and sent a posse up the the grocery store for provisions.
We said bye to Dennis at the dock and thanked him for all the help he gave us and sailed out of the St. Marys River before noon south east to Presque Isle 50 miles across the lake.
The winds were out of the south east right off our bow so we had to motor sail the whole way. We listened to Lenny's Salsa music and enjoyed the open waters of the crossing.
As the light house came into sight we were treated to a great sunset over the coast. Jane had squirreled into the V'berth and Rich was stretched out in his bunk leaving Lenny and I on watch to enjoy the light show.
We made good time and was tied up for the night by 10pm. It was a hard decision whether to hit the bar for last call or make dinner.
Our bellies won and we settled in to a big pot of soup and a much deserved nights sleep.
