The ZiggyCam will be live for the month long trip. With the exception of when anchored after dark (i.e. saving battery usage rather than broadcast a cam feed of the dark) or during a rare lack of cellphone signal the cam will be live 24/7 along with the chat room even miles offshore. The soft goal this year is to hit Mackinac Island and round Drummond Island at the top of Lake Huron before heading back home to Detroit.
25) Another picture perfect day greeted us on the way out. The air was light and the St. Clair River was smooth for the 56 mile run to Lake St. Clair.
Port Huron's ship watching station was hopping with canopies and people every where happy to send us off with waves and shouts. I caught some old friends in their boat as we left the Black River and headed south.
We put out the jib and set the motor on a fast idle and the swift current swept us down stream. Just as the whole trip the freighter traffic was light but the Labor day weekend had all the weekend warriors out for one last boat ride with friends and family.
I have never seen so much boat traffic on the river. an endless supply of clueless idiots going as fast as they can in powerboats with no knowledge of the rules of the water.
Once the breeze picked up after a couple of hours we threw out the second sail and shut down the engine. From there we slow sailed down the river soaking up the awesome detail and beauty of the blue water and natural shore line.
We crawled out into the lake where we caught enough wind to let us kick ass across the lake to the Clinton River under a great sunset and gliding into my home dock finishing a month of adventure like most people have never seen or would know how to handle.
