We screwed around on the NY back roads finding one Gotta see after another until we finally hit the throughway and made some time. The highways in the North East get an exception to the ugly road rule. The scenery is amazing. We rolled into Thorton New Hampshire about midnight.
We were tired and whipped after a 12 hour day on the road. The deep dark two lane NH roads seemed like they would never end. When the lit sign of Valley Brook Cottages rounded the curve we cheered. It has become an annual tradition, this being my 4th time here and Pam's third.
Dan the owner has become a good friend over the years. While on the endless drive up there we discussed skipping next year but not ten minutes after plopping down on the porch chairs cocktail in hand we were already planning a full week next year...
I know I sound like a booking agent for Valley Brooks Cottages every year after passing through but that can't be helped. It's awesome...
Valley Brook by it's old world simplicity and charm makes it stand out to me. Every year we stay in a different cabin and every year we have a new favorite cabin. Do it!
We, well I was bummed out that the Autoroad up Mt. Washington was closed due to high wind. 86 MPH with a wind chill of 3 degrees. It didn't seem to hurt Pam's feelings at all...
The White Mountains have the loop around it. A great road from village to village making for an amazing day of exploration.
We did our annual Bloody Mary stop at Truants Tavern . The always bubbly bartender asked if we wanted Vodka or Whiskey Bloody Marys.
Hmm Whiskey? I asked. She excitedly told us a guy asked for it a week ago and everyone she makes it for said they love it.
Well hell if everyone loves it how could I go wrong?... It was terrible! So when she came back bouncing with excitement asking how I liked it I looked into her big beautiful eyes... and told her, I love it.. Like every swinging dick before me did, dooming the next guy to the same.... pass it on, hehe.
