Just say no
I’ve been out getting wild for a few weeks and need to get caught up. I don’t know where to start so I’ll just pull out a tale from the bunch. My neighbor John took the “Z-Team” initiation a few weeks ago with a sail adventure up the coast to Lexington. We had planed to sail into Pt. Sanilac but at 4:30pm the NOAA weather radio still had no marine forecast posted for the next day. This is always a bad sign. Being on a short time window of Saturday and Sunday we chose not to get to far from home in case the weather turns ugly. John took the wheel and had no trouble navigating the 10-15 kt winds holding a 20+ degree heel most of the day! A notable feat for a first time sailor. He’s been bitten by the bug and is fired up for another sail. As it turned out our worries of the weather proved sound and the 30kt North wind on Sunday whipped up some ugly choppy waves overnight and made sailing back not a safe decision(possibility of spilled beers). After much soul searching we took a ride back to our cars from some very nice yachters who made the wise chose of leaving their boats docked and driving home. I returned the following Tuesday with a buddy from work, Jeff and sailed it back home on a perfect day with lots of sun and plenty of autopilot. The whole trip was one you wish you could put in a bottle and save. Jeff was also hooked and that set the stage for the next caper...................
