put in!!!!!!
5-22-99: Well, after a wild drunken Friday night with my First Mate, Amy and my friend Kevin, we overslept and opted to put in on Sunday morning. Saturday was a rainy overcast day anyway. It had cuddling in the V berth written all over it. I found a cute little family run diner in town and had a good breakfast and brought some eggs and bacon back for Amy and served her in bed.
She was still fighting the effects of the two bottles of wine she drank on an empty stomach the night before. Kevin had made it home to Pt. Huron at 3:30am that morning in less than sober shape and was still in the dog house with the Mrs. along with a hangover. I was operating in low gear but felt alright considering I don’t remember much of the final climb up the ladder into the boat or the cold Arby’s chicken sandwich I ate before going to bed. We later rode into Pt.Huron and visited our friends Doug and Julie at the Yacht Club and went to dinner with their family. on the way we found a new marine supply store in town and stopped in to look. $80 later we made it out. anytime you spend less than $100 on boat stuff you won the battle! I’ll drop another $100 in there next weekend though. too many toys under one roof. Launch morning went like clockwork! The people at River’s Bend Marina are great. I fully recommend them for your boat storage. Indoors or out. Bill had the Peregrine in with no trouble and she started up on the first try. We loaded it up with goodies and left for our home port. Less than two and a half hours later we were gliding under the draw bridges of the Black River excited to be back! I can’t wait to dock at the Zebra bar for a “Zebra burger and a Rolling Rock” overlooking the river. The summer has officially begun now!!! The word is that the only harbor open between Pt.Huron and Saginaw is Pt.Sanilac due to low water. Even Harbor Beach, the largest fresh water harbor in the world, is closed for the season for dredging! This could seriously limit my week long shakedown cruise in a couple of weeks. Good thing Pt.Sanilac is one of my favorite ports to hide in. I spent part of a vacation docked there next to Bob Seager and his 45’ Beneteau a couple of years ago. If you keep your eyes open it’s a popular hiding spot for a lot of high profile people cooling out. With nowhere else to go though I’m afraid it’s going to look like the proverbial watering hole this summer. Just bring your best anchor and the dingy and make the best of it. I usually have no problem doing that!.....Cap’t Ziggy
